Dave Armstrong joins Kenny Burchard to look into the Bible for answers to an often-asked question: Can atheists be saved? The Bible’s answer is more nuanced—and hopeful—than many assume. In this positive, charitable walkthrough, we'll open Scripture and classic Catholic theology to explore three big ideas:
- Ignorance & Mercy – When people truly don’t know, God judges with mercy (Lk 12:48; Acts 3:17; 1 Tim 1:13; Jn 9:41).
- Rebellion & Responsibility – Scripture also warns about willful rejection of known truth (Rom 1; 2 Thes 2:12; Is 5:20).
- Charity & Judgment – Paul models respectful engagement (Acts 17), and Jesus praises unexpected faith (Mt 8:5–13). Final judgment belongs to God (Rom 2:11–16).
We’ll survey 27 Bible passages (RSV-2CE) and draw on St. Thomas Aquinas and magisterial teaching to show why Catholics can say: some professed atheists may be less culpable (invincible ignorance), while others knowingly reject God. Our task? Love, clarity, and the Gospel—no contempt.
